January 1997.

I am sorry that I have not been updating these pages during the past month but Sharon and I have been busy recuperating from our various ailments. We and both doing fairly well.

Sharon was released from the hospital on December 1st (Her Birthday!) because she could not participate in rehab because she was in isolation due to her infection.

I had a heart attack on December 26th. The doctors placed a stint in my heart and I was released on new years eve.

Sharon stayed with Teala while I was in the hospital.

Sharons speech is vastly improved but she still has problems with concepts involving more than one subject or steps, such as:
Pick up the keys and place them into the cup.

On the physical therapy side Sharon has made great improvement. She is relearning how to walk (with the aid of a walker), step up one step, and has been making progress wth several personal issues as well.

It is a tremendous joy to be able to spend a portion of my life with this woman. Her deficits pale next to her love for life and acceptance of her limitations. I know that it had been me in her situation I would be angry with life, god, and everyone around me. I would strike out in my anger at anyone or anything that came near.

Sharon is just not like that. She says to be thankful it isn't worse than it is. I asked her "How could it possibly have been any worse?" Her simple, one word answer sobered me:

"Vegetate."
